Athletes

Special Olympics Montgomery County strives to provide a range of sports, and levels within a sport, to allow each individual Special Olympics athlete to train and compete in a comfortable, but challenging, environment.
Eligibility
Anyone who has been identified by an agency or professional as having an intellectual disability or closely related developmental disability is eligible to participate in Special Olympics training and competition.
Athletes must be 6 years of age to train and 8 years of age to compete.
Athletes must agree to observe the rules of Special Olympics, Inc.
Procedure
All athletes must have a current Application for Participation, often referred to as a "Medical", on file with SOMC. A copy must also be available during any training or competition in which the athlete is to participate.
The Application for Participation requires the signature of a Physician, and the signature of a Parent or Guardian as appropriate.
The Application for Participation must be renewed every 3 years.
