2007 S. O. State Winter Games

The 2007 State Winter Games were held Feb. 25-28, 2007 at Johnstown, PA and surrounding areas.  Due to a winter storm warning, the games were postponed for one day, limiting competition to only one day.  As a result of this time frame, many of the events had to be shortened or eliminated.

The Montgomery County Alpine Ski Team took 14 athletes and 4 coaches while the Figure Skating Team took 7 athletes and 2 coaches.  Considering the modified schedule, everyone ahd a great time and competed at their best, bringing home a variety of medals and ribbons. The Ski Team brought home 11 Golds, 7 Silvers, 1 Bronze, 2 4th and 4 5th place ribbons.

The Figure Skating Team brought home 6 Gold and 3 Silvers.  The coaches had a great time and appreciated the athletes dedication to competition and giving their best effort.  A great big thank you to all the athletes and coches for all your help and cooperation.

County Skater Performs at the Wachovia Center

Considering how the Flyers are playing these days, spectators at the Wachovia Center have not seen much skating worth cheering.  That all changed Wednesday night, November 8th, when international stars such as Irina Slutskaya, Kurt Browning and Michael Weiss appeared in Gretchen Wilson’s County on Ice.  But the highlight of the evening was a solo performance by Montgomery County Special Olympics figure skater Aaron Ross.

After being introduced to the thousands of spectators by a WXTU disc jockey, Aaron took his place in the center of the ice.  He then went on to skate a flawless program accompanied by professional music and special lighting effects.  The audience enthusiastically applauded Aaron’s performance, especially a large contingent of Montgomery County Special Olympics skaters, coaches and friends.

Congratulations, Aaron, on a most memorable performance!
