Special Olympics Montgomery County (SOMC) strives to provide a range of sports, and levels within a sport, to allow each individual Special Olympics athlete to train
and compete in a comfortable, but challenging, environment.
Eligibility
Anyone who has been identified by an agency or professional as having an intellectual disability or closely related developmental disability is eligible to participate in Special Olympics training
and competition.
Athletes must be 7 years of age to train and 8 years of age to compete. Our Young Athletes program is open for participants age 2 1/2 to 7. More information is available on our Young
Athletes banner of this website.
Athletes must agree to observe the rules of Special Olympics, Inc.
The Code of Conduct is part of the downloadable participation form below. Both forms must be completed and returned to Team Montgomery.
Unified sports offer people without intellectual disability to train and compete on teams and individual sports. In Montgomery county these include softball,
volleyball, flag football and long distance running/walking. Unified participants must complete the Application for Participation and check off the "Unified" box in the upper right hand
corner.
Procedure
All athletes must have a current Application for Participation, often referred to as a "Medical", on file with the County Office. Email a scanned copy to our email address shown on the left
hand banner of this page or postal mail it to Team Montgomery. Each and every item on both front and back must be completed or it will be returned. On request, copies will be provided to the
parent/guardian. The head coach should obtain a copy from the County Office (not the parent).
The Application for Participation requires the signature of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant and the signature of a Parent or Guardian as appropriate.
The Application for Participation must be renewed every 3 years.
The application and Code of Conduct may be printed by clicking on "Application for Participation" below.
