Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to providing individuals with intellectual disabilities, or other significant developmental disability, with an opportunity to train and compete in Olympic-style sports. Through training and competition, athletes improve their physical fitness and general health.
The athletes gain the discipline, the inter-personal and social skills, and the self-confidence to become contributing, participating members of our community.
The volunteers who make the program possible have the opportunity, not only to share in the athletes achievements, but also to grow and learn themselves.
Team Montgomery is within the Greater Philadelphia Region of Special Olympics Pennsylvania. Please visit the website here to learn more about how this organization benefits 18,000 people with intellectual disabilities across the Commonwealth.
Montgomery conducts training and competition in 19 sports at various venues within the county, serving over 1,000 athletes last year. All activity is provided solely with funds and support 0from within the county. The programs are carried out with the 100% volunteer efforts of the management team, coaches and other assistant volunteers.
